Surface Depth

Lately, I've felt a bit of a backlash (not personally understand, just a general sense from reading too many blogs/websites) against "twee" or rather sweet dressing. Sometimes aesthetics are just aesthetics and not a reflection of values or intelligence. Choosing to dress doll-like in no way negates your ability to think or function on a normal/higher level. People seem to think that a peter pan collar indicates a lack of depth in an individual. However, while our exterior can be used to express ourselves, choosing bows and headbands doesn’t mean abdicating from being treated like an adult or acting with maturity. Resembling a 50s housewife in vintage dresses doesn't mean I wish to escape to that bygone era or become a homemaker in the future. It is just as likely that we choose pretty packaging to soften the bite of a sarcastic tongue…

More Please

I'm not really one for New Years resolutions; in truth I often don't even think about what I should resolve to do until the last minute because all of my focus is on Christmas when suddenly it is New Year's Eve and I'm supposedly meant to have this deep and meaningful examination of my life and future...But when I do pause to think about what I want to do or become in coming year(s) it's always a question of more--I want to do more, be more, see more, etc. So, here's hoping there is much more to come in the new year; wonderful things that eclipse every experience we've already felt.

Erdem Pre-Fall 2012

Every season Erdem seems to breathe new life into stale florals. His designs are feminine without ever seeming too sacchrine and this season the colors are decidedly off and vintage-inspired. Even the matching knits, pleated skirts, and impeccably matched heels seem to evoke the faded photographs of some by-gone era...

Vampires In Richmond

I drove up to Richmond recently to see a friend and we decided to wander around the Hollywood Cemetery since the weather was so pleasant and I've been wanting to visit it for awhile. A couple of US presidents are buried here along with other notable figures, but I was most intrigued by the story of "the Richmond vampire." Which is an urban legend born from the collapse of a tunnel in 1925 and partially takes place in this cemetery. Urban legends are so entertaining...

Sunday Remix

One of my favorite purchases this fall was this plaid dress from ASOS. There really isn't a more seasonally appropriate fabric than plaid and this dress has all of the qualities of a cozy flannel, but it's finished with a sweet ruffle hem. Definitely a new classic for me that I'll wear fall after fall.
