The Sharper The Berry, The Sweeter The Wine

Twenty8Twelve's A/W 2011 lookbook is stunningly composed and nicely finished with the perfect beauty for autumn: berry-stained lips. With a combination of holiday season party-ready dresses (printed silky pieces or black dresses with sheer sleeves, bonus: they all look good with black tights) and wearable every day pieces with just enough edge to set the wearer apart. Smaller details like fingerless grey loves and the clever belting of an anorak are being filed away in my mental inspiration folder for cooler months...now I'm almost looking forward to some fall weather.

Now You're My Boyfriend

You Made Me A Mix Tape, Now You're My Boyfriend greeting card by Julia Pott

Saturday Remix

One of my favorite fall scarves (and I do have several, because scarves are marvelous things), is this massively cozy cowl from the shop that was formerly YarnOverMovement and is now known as Good Night, Day. It's cream, so quite obviously it goes with nearly every outfit, but here's a little Saturday Remix featuring it anyway!

Sweet Unrest

These encaustic paintings by Eric Blum are beautifully moody and atmospheric. They're created using heated beeswax and pigments and watercolor. The series is abstract, but you feel that if you stared at them long enough the shapes might begin to make sense. His style emerges from what he terms "the irretrievable glimpse"; a moment of potency that he felt was lost when he took photographs. The result is ambiguous paintings that feel familiar, but lack explanations.

Red At Night, Sailor's Delight

It's funny how much simpler things can be in summer. Our wardrobes are necessarily turned minimalist by the rising temperatures, but other areas seem simplified as well. If we're in school, we get out; if we have work, we usually take vacation time. Even if we don't take time away from our usual schedule the sun lingers in the sky like a welcome guest, stretching our days and giving us more time to complete our necessary tasks under golden light. In autumn we begin to layer our clothes; constructing complicated cocoons around our bodies. The days are hurried and short--with fleeting daylight and unwelcoming weather every day has a pointed deadline...

Paper Dolls

This new collection has definitely combined a few of my favorite things: heidi braids, grecian pleats, and nordic knits. The lookbook is just as stunning (if not more so!) as the clothes. The models look like little paper dolls in a decorative chain.

The Traveling Kind

I just received this boxy little purse from my new sponsor Cloth Magpie and decided I had to shoot it at the abandoned trains because the structure reminds me of vintage luggage (always a good thing). Not a too surprising connection since the handbag designer began making purses to breath life into her collection of vintage fabrics. Now the store sells a variety of different bags made with a mix of vintage fabrics and new textiles. I chose the demi-day case in trumpington twilight. I forgot to take pictures of the pretty pink interior with neat little pockets, but it did extend the feeling of retro purses and luggage to me; it feels just as sturdy and well-crafted as the vintage suitcases I've handled in the past. Everything about the bag made me feel ready for a trip--too bad these trains aren't running!
