Interview With The Capricious Club

Bestie is one of the few bloggers that I read when I first started blogging and I still read now (it's been more than four years). I really admire her eclectic style--she wears mixed prints, trousers, difficult lengths, etc, all with apparent ease. Since we've been bumping into each other onlin for so long it was about time I interviewed her.
What type of party is it?
A hat party!
Who’s invited?
Emma Watson, Marc Jacobs, Vincent van Gogh, Buffy Summers, Ellen DeGeneres, Chuck Palahniuk, Ryan Gosling, Tavi Gevinson, the cast of FRIENDS, Jack Kerouac, Elle Fanning, Sylvia Plath, Dr. Gregory House, Zooey Deschanel, my best friends, my sister Sam, and of course you, Rebecca.
Where does it take place?
In the glass pyramid at the Louvre, starting at twilight and lasting well through the night.
What are you serving?
Everything that is good and French.
Who would get to sit next to you?
On my right is van Gogh, because how often does one get to invite him to a quirky little hat party and chat with him? Not too often, I imagine. And on my left I’d like Rebecca to sit because I will probably get too nervous to talk to van Gogh and I’ll need someone eloquent to translate all my gibberish.
What is the theme?
“Fashion Through The Ages”, where everyone has to come in an outfit from their favorite era, and of course they must wear a hat to represent it, too!
Is there a special playlist or entertainment?
A smattering of songs from all types of genres, including classical, indie, pop, jazz and some good ol’ broadway show tunes. Guests will then be treated to a special Bon Iver performance, as well as an encore of Heart Of Gold by wunderkind Tavi.
Are there any party favors?
The guests can choose to receive either a painting or a small sculpture of themselves, done right there at the party. And a box of French macarons, of course.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
Fashion, art, literature, music, and Ryan Gosling’s abs.
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
Chandler Bing. I don’t know if he actually will get drunk, but I’d love to see him get up on the table and do his famous spazzy dance. Of course we know Ellen would eventually join him, whence I assume Dr. House will roll his eyes and pop a pill.
Who is last to leave?
Marc Jacobs, to sketch me a fabulous new dress which he has volunteered to make for me. He’s sweet like that.

Interview With Scathingly Brilliant

Scathingly Brilliant is a delightful blog by Kate that looks as if it should be edible; even her hair reminds me of cotton candy! I enjoy her creative posts and whimsical fashion sense, so I asked her a few questions about a dream party that could only take place in her imagination.
What type of party is it?
A slumber party!
Who's invited?
Carl Sagan, Edward Gorey and his cats, Kurt Vonnegut, Mulder and Scully (from The X-Files), Clarissa Darling (from Clarissa Explains it All), Hayley Mills, Robert Redford circa 1969, Woody Allen, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Julie Christie, Tigger, Ned and Chuck (from Pushing Daisies), my family, my best friends, my cats and Michael Scott from The Office. I know Michael Scott has ruined a lot of parties, but he promised he'd behave for mine if I let him do a stand-up routine.
Where does it take place?
In a 12th century castle in Ireland.
What are you serving?
Pizza, popcorn, lots of slumber party snacks and sparkling grapefruit juice. And Ned baked a bunch of pies in every variety imaginable. The apple was especially delicious!
Who would get to sit next to you?
My cats on one side, in little kitty booster seats, and Mulder on the other. We can talk about alien conspiracies while Carl Sagan gives us a disapproving look from across the table.
What is everyone wearing?
Since it's a sleepover, everyone is wearing pajamas!
Is there a special play list or entertainment?
The Pogues stopped by for a short live performance, and then we spent the rest of the night playing board games and watching classic black and white films being projected on one of the giant castle walls. Oh, and Michael Scott got to do his little stand-up performance, too!
Are there any party favors?
Everyone got a mix-tape of songs from the party and lots of little do-dads like the ones that you'd get in goody bags when you were little… candy necklaces, Lisa Frank stickers, bubbles and slinky toys!
What are the hot topics of the evening?
Our favorite books, astronomy (Carl Sagan led an impromptu star-gazing session on the castle lawn!) and movies. And lots of gushing about our pets.
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
Nobody danced on the table, but Tigger bounced on it!
Who is the last to leave?
After all of the guests are gone, I surprise my family by telling them that I bought the castle and we never have to leave! …. A girl can dream, right? :)

Seasoned With Folly

About a week ago Emily of The Daily Fashionista hosted a holiday blogger party at her apartment. It was a very enjoyable evening with rootbeer float cocktails, yummy bites, a white elephant gift exchange, and the general merriment and conversation of a holiday party. I took my Instax mini and snapped away for a little while before re-focusing on socialization; it's so hard to document and participate in the moment. Anyway it was an incredibly fun night and I'm hoping there are more to come in the future!

Interview With The Dust Dances Too

My good friend Jon (who I recently explored some of New York with) writes The Dust Dances Too and he has a new poetry book out. I just received my copy of his book so it seemed like a fitting time to interview him for this blog. I've known him since college, we collaborate on Dead Paper, I've seen him in bow ties, but like every time I interview a blogger I was pleasantly surprised to hear what the answers to what his dream party would be like and who he would invite. Jon's one of the most creative people I've ever met; I'm constantly impressed by his imagination and unending writing talent and his films (yes he makes films too). His blog is a daily delight with poems that run the full gamut of emotion and his book is a sweet collection of some of his best.
What type of party is it?
A somewhat fashionable, but completely comfortable winter dinner party.
Who's invited?
I'd like a nice mix of friends and creative people; passionate souls who think deep, laugh, and enjoy good food and music. Guest list: Aside from my best friends, (you know who you are) I'll invite George & Mary Bailey from It's a Wonderful Life, Audrey Hepburn, Ella Fitzgerald, Gregory Peck, F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald, Norman Rockwell, his character Willie Gillis, Lupe Fiasco, Yo Yo Ma, Kingsley Zissou, Emily Dickinson, C.S. Lewis, Jean Seberg, Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matt Berninger from the National, Charlie Brown, Linus, and Robert Frost. Oh, and of course, you are invited too.
Where does it take place?
A big Victorian home, nestled in the woods at the edge of a small New England town. Snowing of course.
What are you serving?
Baguettes and nutella, the rest I'll leave up to Chef Ramsay.
Who would get to sit next to you?
On my right, my best friend. On my left, Jean Seberg, because then our hands might accidentally touch.
Is there a special playlist or entertainment?
A live jazz set, maybe solo's by Benny Goodman and John Coltraine. Also, a set from the National & a song by Yo Yo Ma, if he's up to it.
Are there any party favors?
How about candy? Candy is always good. And everyone gets a baby cheetah.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
The conversation should be peppered with laughter, personal stories, and maybe a tear or two. those are the only stipulations.
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
You know the answer to this already: Zelda Fitzgerald hands down. Matt Berninger may join her.
Who is the last to leave?
Robert Frost and C.S. Lewis. I figure the three of us will retire to the drawing room, or library, with pipes, and talk about the mysteries of life until the embers of the fire burn out.

Lost In The Haze

Lately I've really enjoyed reading the blog Lost in the Haze. Written by the lovely Jo and based in New Zealand, it features the most gorgeous photographs of her personal style and equally impressive hair styles. In order to get to know her better I asked her for an interview and had her plan her dream dinner party...

What type of party is it?
It’s a sunny day picnic party!
Who's invited?
Willy Wonka, Finn and Jake (from Adventure Time), Edie Sedgwick, the BFG, Falcor (the dog/dragon in the Neverending Story), Anna Karina, blogging friends, real friends, Aslan (from Narnia), Elvis Presley, and all of the wild things from Where the Wild Things Are.
Where does it take place?
In a massively oversized field next to a circus. There is a Ferris wheel, a ghost train, bouncy castles, bumper cars, arcade games, and a rollercoaster.
What are you serving?
For drinks; cider, ginger beer, and peach tea. For food; pizza, chips, lolly cake, and cupcakes (my tastebuds are easily pleased!)
Who would get to sit next to you?
My fella, Barnaby, would be on one side! On the other side would be Aslan.
What is the theme?
The theme is ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’. We all have to dress up as bears, with painted faces and fuzzy ears.
Is there special entertainment?
Before eating, we would venture towards the rides. We would all go on the rollercoaster, before letting our stomachs settle by watching acrobatics in the circus tent. While eating, we would have more entertainment; a magician would do a magic show while we ate our cupcake dessert.
Are there any party favors?
All guests would receive a ‘goodie bag’ when leaving! There would be sherbet galore, and three-course meal gum; courtesy of Mr Wonka.
What are the hot topics of the evening?
There is tension between Edie and Anna – they both dressed as pandas (with perfect eye makeup of course!)
Who is the most likely to get drunk and dance on the table?
The wild things!
Who is the last to leave?
Probably me! I’d feel too bad if I didn’t help tidy up!

Visiting The Loved One

My best evening in New York was also my last; Erin invited me to join her on a studio visit with Hannah to see the new pieces she's creating for The Loved One. The Loved One started in 2009 as a vintage wholesale business. Since then they've branched into vintage-inspired lingerie made in the States and they recently opened up a physical store in Pasadena. As expected, the pieces are gorgeous and Hannah's adding customized vintage dresses with sheer tops and prettily patterned hot pants to the current collection. I have the Fuego set, but I'm definitely craving even more pieces now. After sifting through all her lovely new items we ended up lingering in Brooklyn for chatting and Indian food. It was a really charming time that I can't sum-up with proper justice, but definitely an evening I would like to repeat.
